Perfect Binding, in its most basic form, requires a hot melt wheel coater, quality hot melt adhesive and a steady hand.
Smaller books with less pages can be manually run over these low cost hot melt rollcoater systems. The compression of the book blockpages, compression against the wheel, speed of operation, and viscosity of the adhesive are all key elements that determine the success of a perfect glue bound book.
Simply stack your pages with end sheets attached so that a smooth bottom is presented to the roller and place a heavy coating of flexible long open time hot melt adhesive on the spine. For good measure a second coating is advisable. Then insert the bound product into the spine of the cover and compress. Close the book to insure the spine stays in intimate contact with the cover spine.
After a few minutes the release liner on the end sheets can be removed and affixed to the inside of the cover.
